Notes: Lawrence's 'Willow' engraving uses the familiar transferware pattern, developed for ceramics by Thomas Minton in the late 18th-century, adapted to depict a cricket match; Lawrence has also adapted the folk tale behind the scene so that it has cricket as its background. A wonderful and harmonious celebration of all three aspects: cricket, wood-engraving, and the Willow design.
