Notes: Inscribed on the flyleaf by the publisher: 'For Laurence, from Tambi 20 iii 47 x' - the recipient was perhaps Laurence Whistler, who was among the poets published in Tambimuttu's Poetry London magazine. A scarce book, published posthumously. The author had attended Merton College, Oxford, where Edmund Blunden was among his tutors, at the end of the previous decade - in the ODNB, Jon Stallworthy remarks that this book 'rendered the war in the western desert as graphically as Blunden's Undertones of War (1928) had depicted life and death on the western front'.
