Notes: Inscribed by the author on the flyleaf: 'To Harry F. Marks, very cordially, Jean de Bosschère'. The recipient was the New York bookseller and publisher, who published an edition of Horace Walpole's 'Hieroglyphic Tales' with Bosschère's illustrations in 1931 - from when this inscription perhaps dates. The plates at rear are extra - the colophon refers to fifty copies having doubles of the plates numbered and signed, but that is not the case and, though welcome enough, they have slightly exacerbated what is already an oddly-constructed book.
