Notes: The copy of notable collector, John Baxter, inscribed to him by the author on the flyleaf: 'For John Baxter, Best wishes – Joseph Connolly, Hampstead, 13.1.78'. Baxter's memoir of book-collecting, 'A Pound of Paper', was published in 2002, and the annotations here alight particularly on the various authors familiar from that account: Kingsley Amis, Graham Greene (the most-heavily annotated, with pages from a G.F. Sims catalogue laid in also), Raymond Chandler, Dashiell Hammett, et al.
