Notes: The debut collection, posthumous, of 'perhaps British communism's sharpest intellectual of his time' (ODNB). Caudwell died during the Spanish Civil War, fighting for the International Brigade. The ownership inscription is that of Bridget N. Fawcett, dated 22.5.41 - she was the wife of Oxford mathematician Edward Crossley Thompson, and like him began her war-work at Bletchley Park in this year.
