Notes: This was Lhomond's most successful book, officially adopted for the nation's primary schools in An IV (1794). It was reprinted innumerable times - in France, in England, in the United States, with a dizzying array of edition statements, most of which are dubious. We have seen the date of the first edition given as 1780, but no copy earlier than, Paris, 1786 ('cinquième édition', as it happens) is in WorldCat or KVK, and of the present edition, just one copy is recorded, in Quebec.
