Notes: Inscribed by the author on the flyleaf: 'For Marjorie, with love from May, April 14. 1950' - the recipient was Marjorie Wells, the daughter-in-law and secretary of H.G. Wells. Though she knew the pater familias, Sarton's main interaction came with the next generation of the Wells family - his eldest son G.P. Wells and wife Marjorie - and that via her association with S.S. Koteliansky, who was close to the family.
