Notes: Inscribed by the author to the verso of the flyleaf: 'To the protector of my infancy, the Guide and and[sic] Companion of my youth and manhood, my father from his son, Bennet Burleigh, Glasgow, 1896'. Bennet Burleigh was the most famous British war correspondent of his time - for the Daily Telegraph, he covered British imperial activity in Africa in the final decades of the nineteenth-century.
