Description: tiny nick to title-page in first volume, a few leaves in same lightly creased at top corner, final page of second volume lightly spotted, pp. [ii], xxxiv, 373; [ii], xvii, 352, foolscap 8vo, nineteenth-century straight-grained red morocco, gilt borders and rules, the backstrip lettered in gilt, a.e.g., some wear to edges and corners, the backstrips darkened and rubbed, a few light marks, marbled endpapers with the bookplate of Gladys Huntington to front pastedowns and each volume with ex dono inscription to initial blanks, recording them as 'the gift of the Reverend William Howley' (see below), later gift inscription to Huntington in first vol., good

Notes: An attractive little edition from the printer's prime – scarce enough on the market, and whilst the condition of what would have once been a handsome binding has lost its lustre, there is a little interest in the provenance: the earliest inscription, in May 1802, belongs to Emilia Sloper, about whom nothing could be traced; on the facing verso is that of Eliza. Warren in 1844, recorded opposite, in the same hand, as being 'the gift of the Reverend William Howley, Nov/1828/ Arch Bishop of Canterbury'.
