Description: Dedication in Roman type, the text in Black Letter, woodcut printer's device on title, woodcut initials (a fine large T to begin the dedication), and 16 engravings in the text, mostly full-page, 3 cropped, 1 pasted in (and therefore really a plate, but intended for its position on C1v), lacking the final plate, single wormhole in inner margin, no loss, pp. 64, 4to, elegant and strictly contemporary ownership inscription on title of George Cate... 159[], this, and shelfmark at head cropped [bound after, and separated by a few blank leaves:] [Proctor (Thomas)] Of the knovvledge and conducte of warres, two bookes, latelye wrytten and sett foorth, profitable for suche as delight in hystoryes, or martyall affayres, and necessarye for this present tyme. Notes: First separate edition of Ive's treatise, now dedicated to Queen Elizabeth, being 'newlie augmented this my former published work, and made fitter for your Maiesties seruice'. It was first issued as part 2 of Beccarie de Pavie, Raimond Baron de Fourquevaux, Instructions for the warres, 1589, (STC 1708.5). The present edition is rare, just Jesus Coll., Cambridge, Hatfield, Leeds Central, and Yale in ESTC. The Cambridge on-line catalogue does not in fact list this edition, while the only copy in COPAC is for RCP.
