Notes: The author was the wife of Austin Farrer, a notable theologian and Oxford don - both were close to the Inklings group. Her series of three detective novels featuring Inspector Richard Ringwood, of which this is the last, are set amongst the university's colleges and in the city beyond - in this case taking Ringwood to Touraine in France, following 'old scents of the Résistance' in the company of his bloodhound, Ranter.
