The Work and Life of Solon.

Freeman (Kathleen)

The Work and Life of Solon.

With a Translation of his Poems.

Description: FIRST EDITION, a few small spots, largely to borders, pp. 236, 8vo, original maroon cloth, backstrip lettered in gilt, lightly rubbed at extremities, dustjacket, very good

Publication Details: Cardiff and London: University of Wales Press and Humphrey Milford, 1926

Notes: Inscribed by the author on the flyleaf: 'Lilian M.C. Clopet, from Kathleen Freeman, July 14th, 1926'. The recipient was the author's long-term partner, though this inscription must date from early in their acquaintance (which may explain Freeman's misspelling of the name 'Liliane') - Clopet was then 25 and still studying for her medical degree; not until 1929 does Freeman begin to dedicate all her novels to her, and they lived together at Lark's Rise in Cardiff from the beginning of the 1930s.
