The English Nun,

Selden (Catharine)

The English Nun,

or, the Sorrows of Edward and Louisa. A Novel

Description: woodcut vignette on title, woodcut tailpiece, a few spots, and minor staining here and there, pp. 188, 12mo, contemporary tree calf, round spine stained green, gilt with a harp in each compartment, red lettering piece, minimal wear, ownership inscription of Martha Merrow dated 1806 on fly-leaf

Publication Details: New York: Printed by J. Swaine, 1806

Notes: This first appeared in a Minerva Press edition of 1797 (only 5 copies in ESTC, none in the UK), and another novel by Selden appeared under Lane's imprint in 1800. This New York edition is recorded only at Oxford in COPAC. New York publications of this era tend to be printed on poor paper (which browns horribly), and bound in sheep of inferior quality. This book on the other hand is a delectable volume, still a little provincial in style, and none the worse for that.
