Notes: The rare first edition of one of Walker's numerous Gothic novels in the manner of Ann Radcliffe. There is a laconic Preface, which reads in its entirety: 'In compliance with the present Taste in Literary Amusement, this work is presented to the Public.' ESTC records Bodleian only in the UK, Huntington and Texas in North America, and the Fisher Library in Sydney. COPAC adds NLS. There was another London edition in 1821, 2 in Dublin (the first in 1800), and at least 2 in the US, and it was translated into French....more
