Notes: The first edition of Henry Brooke's second novel, preceded by the more famous 'The Fool of Quality', a favourite of John Wesley. It saw mixed reviews: 'Juliet Grenville is, indubitably, a work of genius, and of uncommon merit, in various respects' (Monthly Review, January 1774, p. 16), but 'a second novel, Juliet Grenville, was soon forgotten' (Cambridge Guide to Literature in English).
