Inscribed by the author on the title-page, 'To Rab, with best wishes, Karl Miller'; his signature is joined by that of Andrew O'Hagan (with a message to the same), and Seamus Heaney. Heaney is a recurrent presence in the text: he and O'Hagan are Miller's travelling companions in the Foreword, 'The Excursions', and there is an essay on 'What Happened to Seamus Heaney?', but of greatest moment is his poem 'Didn't they ramble?', a tribute to Miller, which is printed for the first time here. The ticket for the event at which the book was signed, the Edinburgh International Book Festival 2012, is laid in - a late signature from the poet, who died a year later.
