Bookseller Notes

An important early collection, not least for the inclusion of Hulme's 'complete poetical works' - five poems that include what Eliot, in a 1924 tribute, regarded as 'two or three of the most beautiful short poems in the language'. Pound's own work here includes 'Portrait d'Une Femme', 'The Return', and 'The Seafarer', his translation from the Anglo-Saxon. One of the key texts of Imagism; the printed dedication is to William Carlos Wiliiams. A month after publication in October 1912, the publisher went bust - the first issue, with Swift's catalogue for 'Books That Compel' at the rear intact, is uncommon.
