Publisher's Synopsis

Modern industrial plants often have a number of distributed control systems which are monitored by a central process computer. The operator can select different plant pictures using the computer's colour monitor, and study the status of the process. #FDESattLine is an object-oriented system used both for programming the functions of the plant and for presentation of the plant pictures. In SattLine, all actual process objects, such as valves, pumps, controllers etc., are represented by their own program modules. The modules present the real-life process objects on the screen, and also contain the program for internal functioning of the objects, together with their interaction with other objects and with the operator.;The book begins with a general description of basic computing concepts. Here different types of program based systems are compared, from PLC systems up to general object-oriented programming languages. Then follows a more detailed description of how SattLine is used in the design of plant pictures, with associated programs for control and monitoring. The book is rounded off with some general ergonomic gidelines on how to design pictures to make the job of the operator easier.
