Bookseller Notes
Scarce. The second state, as usual: Pound's 'digest of all the wisdom he has acquired about art and life during the course of fifty years' (blurb) was, predictably, found to be riddled with libellous statements (concerning Kipling, Cosmo Lang, Thomas Hardy's sisters, N.M. Butler, and many others) - which necessitated a score of cancels. Six copies of the text in its original form survived - one for the publisher's files, the others given to the author.Presented as an education to all 'young people [...] who actually want to think for themselves', it is rather more combative than pedagogical in its approach to the state of western civilisation; the printed dedication is 'To Louis Zukofsy and Basil Bunting, strugglers in the desert'.
