Inscribed on the half-title by the curators, Ingrid Svensson and Jonathan Pearman: 'John, your generosity has given us a literary highlight that we no doubt will never forget. Thanks, Ingrid & Jonathan, Stockholm, 5th March 2004'. The recipient was author and bibliophile John Baxter, upon whose collection the exhibition was largely based and who provides the introduction to this catalogue - the text of which otherwise in Swedish. Laid in is an invitation to the opening of the exhibition addressed to Baxter, for which the latter provided the opening address - a print-out of which accompanies. A survey of the heyday of expatriate printing in the French capital between the wars - Sylvia Beach, the Black Sun Press, Contact Editions, et al.
