Rare Book
Signed by the author in black ink at the foot of his 'Afterword' to the second poem - this a rousing piece of jingoistic verse, closing with the advice 'Enfold yourself in Chivalry and go you forth, my son,/ And not come back till God's fair earth is cleansed of every Hun'. The patriotic strain runs through the two long poems here, the one historical, the other concerned with the present war.The first poem had originally been published in 1910; a pamphlet with the title of the latter poem is present in the War Poetry collection at Birmingham Public Libraries with a tentative date of 1917. LibraryHub holds no record of the present publication. The author, born 1864, had a distinguished military career: he began the War as Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Hellenic Navy, fulfilling then the same position for the British Adriatic Squadron, before, in 1917, being seconded to the Air Board (Kerr was the first British flag officer to become a pilot) to play a role in the formation of the Air Ministry and the Royal Air Force.
