Rare Book
Inscribed on the title-page by Greene's widow: 'For John & Marie-Dominique, With affection. Sarah Greene'. The recipients were author John Baxter and his wife, film-maker Marie-Dominique Montel. Laid in is a card from Lady Greene, supplying her Canadian address (resident there from 'Spring -> Fall'), and a 2pp. autograph letter in its original envelope: in the latter she thanks them for gifts recently opened - explaining that she had delayed in doing so, thinking it contained VHS tapes (in fact a book and a 'magic French breadboard'. Lady Greene goes on to refer to a photograph of Hugh and Graham Greene with newspapers on the front lawn at Earl's Hall - this unfortunately not here present. She explains that 'anything in England spelled (spelt?) Earl's means it does, or did belong to the de Vere's[sic]' and invites them to attend the Toronto film festival. On the rear of the envelope is a further note thanking them for tulips.
