The current migration movements due to wars, persecution, hunger, and violence are presenting all European cities with enormous challenges. In Germany the issue of housing is also once again a focus of discussion among politicians, city planners, and architects. The initial sense of being overwhelmed felt by all those involved has evolved into a creative and innovative architecture debate about housing. Consequently, architectural concepts and projects have emerged in recent years that respond in different ways to the human basic need for housing and that have spurred a debate about the residential housing of the future. It is no longer about temporary shelter for those in direct need, but especially about a socially acceptable, integrative, and cooperative city.
