The Z Virus had put humanity on the endangered species list, but due to a variety of reasons, including just plain dumb luck, the Pacific Northwest had survived the apocalypse a little bit better than most of America. Even so, a handful of years later there is no shortage of two-legged dangers, with zombies and bandits being at the top of the list. But it is a much viler menace that now threatens the restoration of society . . . cannibals. Having gained her 'highway' smarts working for the Zombie Express trucking company, Latisha is hired to be driver and bodyguard to the Governor's Special Investigator, whose disagreeable duties include probing the New Montana National Guard's culpability in suspected incidents of rape and murder against civilians. Latisha's new boss, Pamela, is a harsh taskmaster who does not fully appreciate the dangers she is about to encounter. And several of their destinations are places Latisha had hoped to never return to. But when it comes to the risks of the road, Latisha insists it's her way or the highway. No matter how she really feels about her new boss, it is her job to protect Pamela from the world . . . and from the S.I.'s inexperience.
