Though most yielded to the pressure to assimilate, there were some who resisted. Coco, a 96-year old Tokoan from the country of Bocan, held firm in his refusal to let go of the mother tongue, Muuo. On the celebration of his 96th birthday, he gave an impassioned speech about the importance of reclaiming the Tokoan identity by reviving Muuo. His insights captured the imagination of two Tokoan teenagers seeking to understand their history.
