Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from Whittet: A Family Record, 1657-1900
This old document is of much interest, not only as affording an early occurrence of the name, but also because of the subject matter to which it relates. It confers authority on the Glover trade to protect their craft from unskillful persons who might invade their town, and Shows the nature of the restraints exercised over trade in olden times. It is found in a volume entitled The Burgh. Laws of Dundee, by A. J. Warden, pp. 406 and given here as a thing of curiosity in these days of freedom, and showing that he who bore our name in that day is found in good com pany, being among the worthies entrusted with the management of civic affairs in the long ago.
