Publisher's Synopsis
The book commemorates the the restoration in 2012 of Scots Kirk, in Scarborough, Tobago, Trinidad and Tobago. This Kirk was one of two built in 1834 by the Presbyterians and handed over to the Church of England after the Presbyterian ministry ended in 1841. The Kirk was used as a school from 1842 to 1990. The history of the two Scots Kirks is woven into a comprehensive study of the christian churches and of education in Tobago up to 1872. The churching, schooling, burial grounds, the handover of the Kirks to the Church of England, the political and constitutional conflicts and the question of religious equality, in their far reaching dimensions are discussed in this work.
