It is the story of group of European tourists who are on a trip to Egypt in 1895. They are sailing up the River Nile in a turtle-bottomed, round-bowed stern-wheeler named the Korosko. They have planned to travel to Abousir located at the southern frontier of Egypt. They are attacked and abducted by a marauding band of Dervish warriors.
