Publisher's Synopsis
Conflict was rife between Juliet and her grandmother, who was demanding that Juliet conceive a son from the Guardian. Juliet was feeling belligerent, wishing to maintain her beautiful figure. A battle of wills raged; Juliet's grandmother was determined that either her granddaughter conceive the child or she would enlist an alternative female; not considering her granddaughter's protests to be valid in these desperate times.
Rosemary, Juliet's grandmother, made several attempts, casting spells, contriving potions to outwit Johnny and Juliet; inflicting stress on their fragile relationship. Rosemary enlisted the help of two other witches; Susan and Sandra to assist in her deception in the attempt to achieve her quest, with the backing of the Witches' Council.
The sisterhood feared after waiting centuries for the Guardian to arrive, if anything happened to Johnny before he sired a son they were doomed to a life without protection against the Hunters who continually plagued the sisterhood; taking females to produce offspring for themselves.
Juliet, torn between her own wishes and supporting the sisterhood, finally decided on the direction she considered appropriate for herself and the man she loved.
