Publisher's Synopsis
This book provides a full, practical record of one of the many unpublished tomb-chapels of ancient dignitaries of Western Thebes, all once brilliantly painted. No 44 is the tomb of Amenemhab, a priest who served the great god Amon of Thebes under the imperial splendours of Ramesses II. Its features include some rather special scenes, such as the cult of the great ram-headed Standard of Amon, and the rite of smashing pots at funerals, very rarely shown in Egyptian art. Dr Hassan El-Saady's descriptive text gives a very clear account of the contents of the tomb-chapel which complements the full series of linear and photographic plates, and provides English translations of all the decipherable hieroglyphic texts (set out clearly in a special section).
