Publisher's Synopsis

After the violent 1976 black student uprising in South Africa, many of the young black people, realizing that, to tell the world of the injustices that they were suffering and also fight the illegitimate white government, they had to leave the country, receive subversive training and return to fight for their rights. One of these young people is Simon Malaza who returns to South Africa with a plan to plant a bomb in Johannesburg. He builds the bomb himself and targets the Johannesburg Stock Exchange building. Shortly before the day of the bombing Simon meets a friend of his, Michael Maleka, who invites him to visit him on the smallholding where he lives. He gives Simon a piece of paper with his name and address on it. Greg Buchanan and his wife Elaine are trying to revive their marriage after the exposure of Greg's affair with Rita Coetzee. On the same day that Simon travels to Johannesburg to plant the bomb, Elaine also visits the city. The bomb explodes prematurely killing Simon and Elaine who happens to be walking next to Simon at the time. During the subsequent investigation of the bomb blast the security police find the piece of paper with Michael's name and address on it. He is arrested and two policemen, Dan Coetzee and Piet van Staden interrogate him. Michael is severely tortured before the police set him free. He swears revenge on the two policemen. Michael fashions a deadly stabbing instrument out of the tine of an old garden fork and sets out to take his revenge.
