Publisher's Synopsis

Demetrio and Ascensión are two young teachers who after their marriage in Spain early in the twentieth century take up their positions in Castejón de las Armas to develop their careers there. While they raise a family, the country is shaken by the political fight that confront the conservative parties against the left ones. This social instability will reach them even in their remote rural destination. Demetrio will be unwittingly involved in the social and political confrontation of Spain. The novel depicts the life of the two teachers and the historical events of Spain since the threshold of the twentieth century that would culminate with the outbreak of the Spanish civil war in 1936.
