The Pool Dude is the story of Eddie Hazzard, a wannabe stand-up comedian who goes to Hollywood to fulfill his dream, but when he finds he can't get the life of celebrities, illegal drugs, fast living and even faster women on his own, he does the next best thing to being a star - he surrounds himself with them.
Eddie and his friend, Stephen Boyd make the trek West to become stars, but soon discover it's not going to be overnight success. The Oklahoma natives check into a sleazy motel and Eddie thinks he gets a break after his first show when he meets a manager who'd like to represent him. He also gets his first Hollywood groupie and far more than he bargained for.The Tanzania Resort Mansion is a hot bed of activity, not all of it legal. Until stardom comes along, Stephen gets a job as their new pool boy after their previous employee met a tragic end. Stephen is hyped by the new job and his gorgeous boss, Jillian, who is more than she seems. When he returns to give Eddie the good news he finds himself in a life changing predicament which lands him in the hospital. Eddie takes over Stephen's job as the pool boy once he sees all the perks. Free lavish room, access to all ground facilities and celebrity parties, and the added bonus of extra money getting celebrities drugs. Eddie is living it up and getting more respect than when he tried to hit the comedy circuit. Without giving it much effort, he declares the whole town is gigged against him and he'd rather live like a star at the resort. He even gets the fine receptionist as his girl.
Just as Eddie thinks he got it all figured out things get complicated. His loving mother wants to know when she can come see him in Hollywood, since he's doing so well financially, he can send big chunks of money home. Stephen tells him to cut ties with the resort before Eddie gets in too deep and goes to jail. Another drug cartel wants to use Eddie to topple Jillian and her people and then use him for their purposes, and his manager is taking advantage of Eddie's job at the resort and charging resort services to Eddie. Things fall apart quickly when the receptionist, Vanessa tells Eddie he's in danger. The cartel thinks he's been talking. Once he finds her dead soon afterwards, Eddie makes a run for it only to be apprehended by the police, who are well aware of his activities at the resort and want to use him to being down the current drug lords. Eddie has so much coming at him he wishes he'd stuck to comedy and not settled on the fast life. The decisions he makes to get out of the whole mess will leave the reader gasping.
