Publisher's Synopsis

Many small businesses consider the introduction of a personal computer as a means of increasing efficiency and cutting costs. Many users, however, find that they are disappointed with their computer once it is installed and can easily access only the most basic of functions. This guide is designed to help users exploit fully the facilities of their system with minimum effort to gain maximum return on their investment. The book is highly practical and progresses step-by-step allowing users to develop their skills. The author highlights examples of good practice throughout. The book presents an overview of small business applications of the IBM compatible microcomputer with reference with particular reference to the Amstrad PC, and to the WordStar 1512. The Data Protection Act is summarized and explained. File maintenance and management is covered, much of which is applicable to other IBM compatibles. The more advanced area of designing front-end interfaces is also examined using MS-DOS to create: i) batch files ii) menus written in MS-DOS. Although this is more advanced it maintains the practical approach typical of the rest of this book.
