The Masque begins with the Organ playing the opening strains of the Washington theme, plainly stated, and of the Lincoln theme, in equally simple form. All is dark, save for a faint glow of dawn in the shy seen between two tall massive columns at the head of some steps. On either side, at the foot of the steps, are two stone benches.
