Publisher's Synopsis

Excerpt from The Juvenile Instructor, Vol. 24: A Semi-Monthly Magazine, Devoted to the Education and Elevation of the Young; May 1, 1889

But we will tell our story. Some few years ago a young Servian by the name of Michael Markoff had drifted to Alexandria in Egypt, where he had opened a barber's shop. He had been brought up religiously, but he was dissatisfied with the faith of his fathers. He was anxious to serve the Lord but was not content with the systems of religion with which he was acquainted. In this condition of mind he frequently sought the Lord in prayer for more light and intelligence that he might more acceptably serve Him. One night a messenger came to him in a dream and told him to sell his barber's shop at once and to take the next vessel for Constantinople. Markoff had faith in this message and obeyed it. He sold his shop and secured a ticket by the next steamer for Constantinople.
