Publisher's Synopsis
Global warming and runaway population growth has resulted in global chaos and rioting that has disrupted most local governments. In New Orleans, Caleb Jackson, an attorney, gets his family ready to evacuate to a farm he inherited from his Dad in Marston, MS. Others including friends and relatives are doing the same thing. He is asked by a Presidential staffer to contact, Scarletti, a rioting leader who is taking over New Orleans, Louisiana, to promise the man a ration of food in exchange for keeping peace in the city until the country has recovered from the global discord. Scarletti agrees but secretly wants to take over Baton Rouge to control the state and secede after peace has been restored in the country and demands modern weapons. An arrogant real estate developer, Furman, whose project Caleb had successfully rejected in a law suit, moves into a farm next to Caleb's with armed support and immediately shows his hostility. The conflict eventually broadens to include Scarletti who Caleb, at the President's request has helped kick out of New Orleans. Scarletti vows to destroy Caleb and sets out to do just that.
