Joe Brando works hard to have an average life but he is anything but normal: he's a barman who can read minds. Joe lives a quiet life in Clearwater with his beloved Aunt Mary, who keeps an eye on his philandering brother, Danny. A chance encounter draws him into a dangerous underworld and, inevitably, into the arms of the beautiful Isabelle. She forces Joe to confront a traumatic childhood, as well as encouraging him to hone his unique ability. When a spate of murders rock his town, Joe Brando finds himself in the middle of a dangerous investigation. Joe is hit with personal tragedy and fears that Danny is looking good for the killings. In the underworld, the mysterious and powerful Amelia takes an interest in him after learning of the curse. In the real world, Eve, his only friend, keeps pushing his buttons. And Diane, his employer, isn't all that she seems to be. After an attempt is made on his life, Joe Brando knows that it is only a matter of time before he has a confrontation with the Slasher.
