Publisher's Synopsis
Drama set in Yugoslavia in the final days of WWII in which a rural man is forced to face the harsh realities of life in a war-torn country. Andrija (Tom Conti) is something of a figure of fun in his village - a lifeguard who has never had to save a life and has thus far avoided the dangers of the war. Andrija, however, is quite happy with his peaceful life, so is perturbed when he finds himself forced into an awkward cohabitation with a young widow, Ana (Susan George), who is hiding from the Germans. The young man's comfortable existence is complicated further when he is finally forced to jump into the water to perform a rescue. Far from being grateful, the man he has saved poses a great threat to Andrija and those close to him...
