In most IEA countries a new investment cycle in power generation is looming and a window of opportunity exists to push for a cleaner and more efficient generation portfolio and help build a more sustainable infrastructure lasting over the next 40-50 years. This book looks at recent trends and prospects for investment in power generation as well as the main drivers and barriers, giving special emphasis to the question of how uncertainties may affect investment decisions. Uncertainties on: CO2 constraints, power plant licensing, acceptability of nuclear power, local opposition, government support for specific generation technologies, and government policies on energy efficiency are particularly disturbing.
