Publisher's Synopsis
In the inner city of a generic Northern municipality, we find two rival chess prodigies engaging in the latest over-the-top stage of combat. The city they live in is the chessboard and their loyal classmates are the pawns and knights. The two leaders are stark contrasts of each other. Willie is reserved, polite, and wise beyond his years. Frank is boastful, prideful, and willing to do anything to win. It's a classic tale of good versus evil as far as everyone is concerned. Frank's team consists of: his best friend, Patrick, the school bullyJosh, the new kid in town with a mysterious past; Brian, a quiet boy with a knack for blending in; and Abraham, an eighth-grader on steroids. Overall, they're an intimidating group of bruisers. Willie, meanwhile, has such forces as: his cousin, Ray, an unconfident writer; Justin, a crude prankster; Angel, an eccentric follower of Christ; and Jamil, a wannabe Romeo. Each force plays to their leaders' strengths. Frank prefers a more offensive style with reckless powerhouses. Willie is gifted with out-of-the-box combinations and making the most of a ragtag team to pull off a win. The first moves are being planned, every piece is in its proper place, and nobody knows who will call check first!
