Publisher's Synopsis

French suspense thriller based on the novel by Georges Simenon and directed by Cédric Kahn. Antoine (Jean-Pierre Darroussin) and Hélène (Carole Bouquet) are on their way to pick up their children from summer camp. At first in high spirits, the couple start sniping at each other during the drive as tensions in their relationship bubble to the surface. Antoine is an alcoholic, and when the oppressive heat and holiday traffic start to take their toll on his already frazzled nerves, he begins repeatedly to stop off at roadside taverns to have a drink, much to the anger and distaste of his wife. When he stops at yet another bar and returns to his car to find Hélène missing, he becomes panic-stricken, and events quickly spiral out of control with horrifying consequences.
