In a story that is first piercing and somber and ultimately uplifting and freeing, you will follow Tyne, the protagonist, in his walk through time and the vast spaces of the American Southwest, pulled forward by a sudden eruption of spiritual longing which has sprouted in him like a wildflower. The longing has pulled him violently from the prosaic sameness and superficiality of his life and thrust him into the journey. The story tells of this journey in search of a final, fixed resolution to a long-buried desire. It plays itself out in three levels or planes: the spiritual, timeless quest; the physical movement across the magical landscape of the southwest, the high desert plateaus and violent juxtapositions of red rock spires under azure blue sky; and the travel backward and forward through time, personal history or fantasy, and the history of the land and its people and creatures. The drama first mystifies, then awakens, and finally clarifies. You will find yourself free to follow Tyne, free to feel his tortured soul as he sets out, like a desert nomad, unencumbered by the expectations of the life he leaves behind. His journey becomes a free-fall into oblivion, a death-spiral, until his instincts take over. Then the story begins to fill its sails with a warm wind, a force for salvation and rebirth that carries Tyne to his own self-realization and personal resurrection, when he is able to reintegrate with the child he once was, the being he was first created to be. Tyne reclaims his sense of creation and his own place within it; he is standing up into the sky like a giant.
