The book describes the exciting experiences of Dick Handscombe, the author, and Clodagh his then fiance during an adventurous 52 day 950 kilometer walk along the entire Pyrenean mountain range on the sunny Spanish side. The walk was commenced on the windy wet rocky headland of the Cap Hiquer lighthouse on the shore of the Bay of Biscay and was finished when they stepped across warm soft sand into the warm foot soothing waters of the Mediterranean sea. The walk was a great adventure, indeed an odyssey, undertaken as a retirement challenge to prove that Dick had truly recovered naturally from two cancer operations, had strengthened previously wonky knees and found a great new walking partner in Clodagh. The book describes the day by day thrills hardships and romances, the route taken and the necessary rerouting due to unusually heavy late Spring snow falls, the wonderful scenery, the amazing array of birds butterflies and plants, the majestic wild horses and bulls, the friendship of the Spanish mountain folk, the great Pyrenean food and rosado wines etc.. Amazingly no other long distance walker was met and it was a joy to be away from mobile phones for 52 days. Dick and Clodagh had never carried heavy backpacks nor trekked in their life before and their way of reducing the loads carried are described.
