When Officer Tara Winter is ordered to stop investigating the serial killings of the man they call 'The Cyborg Strangler, ' she can't let it go. Her and her partner Officer Michael Frante have been given a new case: two women found dead in an apartment not their own, executed. While working the case, and getting closer to catching yet another killer of women, Tara cannot help but think about the uncaught strangler, and about her own past... and how it all ties together... ---------------------------------------------------------- EXCERPT FROM BOOK The crime scene had been a definite puzzle. It wasn't the killer's motives that interested Tara the most. She wasn't in her job for that. Some of the men she knew, even at the highest levels...they were in it for the chase of the monsters, to understand the underbelly of society. That wasn't Tara. Tara didn't give two shits about the killers, unless it lead to their capture. They all thought they were special, but when it came down to it...in Tara's experience, all killers were usually the same. They were scared, little boys who took out their childish rage on others. Sure, often there were window dressings and elaborate displays of dominance and intelligence, but it all boiled down to the same thing. Killers were scared of mortality and didn't know how to deal with it. Which is why Tara was not as interested in why the killer had not murdered the girls in their respective states, but was spending a great deal of time pondering the gunshot residue on their hands. Where had that come from and why was it there? This she knew, was going to be the key to the case. She could feel it. It was on her mind as she threw on a hoodie, pulled it up, and left the house, once again leaving Marlin to fend for himself. Somehow he was still fat, so food could not have been too much of a problem for him. Tara was still thinking about her case; that wasn't something she could turn off, but she was going to work a lead from the Cyborg case. It was her own time, and Tara could still talk to people as a concerned citizen, even though she had been told to drop the case. AUTHOR'S NOTE: This is a story with an HEA.
