A novel based on true events in World War II. A tail gunner in a B-17 is listed as "missing in action" after his plane, a B-17 Flying Fortress with a crew of ten is shot down over German-occupied Holland. He is taken in by the Dutch underground and becomes part of a large plan to save pilots by moving them towards the Rhine and getting them across where allied troops are in control. For six months he must play the part of a deaf-mute Dutchman. He is moved from one safe house to another, until the battle on the Rhine, in which many are killed. Endless suspense!
