Things are looking up in the Hertfordshire children's home. Thirteen year old Tom has found a fiver and is contemplating the purchase a pile of goodies when calamity strikes. Tom is spotted pocketing the cash, and what is worse: the fiver belongs to Moose and now he and two of his cronies are after him. Tom is running for his life, when suddenly a huge submarine breaks through the tarmac of the home's car park. Tom is dazed and amazed when a pair of boys call down from the conning tower and beckon him onboard. Is this a rescue or a kidnapping? Tom has a decision to make, but he had better make it quickly because Moose is not far away and he is not happy.
