Dr. W. Murrell says that dry rubbing is to be pre ferred because there is better muscular contraction in consequence Of a greater ?ow Of lymph; that electric currents are thus more easily developed in the tissues and that greater elevation of the temperature Of the part ensues; and that the patient is usually grateful if Oil has not been used. Dr. Stretch Dowse suggests in cases Of painfully stiff joints that equal parts of castor oil and chloroform will help to deaden the pain; he also recommends Oil for abdominal massage. Margaret Palmer makes the statement that, until they learn how to use their hands, beginners will find it easier to work with a lubricant; and that later a lubricant Should be used only under exceptional circumstances.
