Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from Man and Space: The Next Decade
Besides edible solids and potable liquids, human beings have a constant demand for oxygen, and more generally, for a life support system which provides oxygen and other gases in a definite balance. For example, in one day the average man breathes in enough air to fill an soo-gallon tank. This is, of course, a gas of which a fifth is all-important, life-sustaining Oxygen. Packaged in liquid form, the daily oxygen requirement weighs about two pounds. A year's supply, including pressure tanks and regulating equipment, might weigh almost a ton.
