Une entité maléfique revient tout les trois cent ans sur l'île de Man hanter ses habitants. Elle exige d'eux une certaine chose en contrepartie de les épargner. Le cargo Shetland voguait sans encombre depuis son départ la veille du port d'Inverness en Ecosse vers l'île de Man au large de l'Irlande. La voûte céleste d'un noir profond s'apparentait à un écrin de velours où scintillaient les étoiles à l'instar de clins d'oeil bienveillants. Le Capitaine avait estimé leur débarquement aux premières lueurs de l'aube et tandis qu'il songeait au pub où il se désaltérerait avec son équipage sitôt la marchandise livrée, soudain les flots s'agitèrent violemment.- Capitaine ! s'exclama son second, nous dérivons ! Maintenez le cap ! ordonna son supérieur.Malgré les efforts combinés des hommes pour contrer cette brusque déviation, rien n'y fit. Le navire semblait être pris dans les griffes d'un monstre invisible. Le tonnerre éclata, les éclairs fusèrent, la pluie s'abattit. Emportés dans la spirale du tourbillon marin, ils scandèrent à travers les éléments en furie les prénoms de leur compagnon de route pour s'assurer de leur état. Instinctivement, le Capitaine tenta de se repérer dans ce gouffre dépourvu d'étoiles. Au moment où les matelots se signèrent se sentant promis à une mort certaine, une puissante force extérieure souleva le navire avec la facilité d'un enfant. Happé dans les hauteurs de l'atmosphère glaciale avec la lune pour seul témoin, tous furent saisit d'incrédulité et d'effroi. Là, une gigantesque créature fantomatique les tenait dans le creux d'une main. D'un sourire cruel, elle dirigea lentement son autre main vers le groupe qui entonna la chanson des sirènes face au baiser imminent de la mort. Le temps d'un battement de coeur, elle aspira leurs âmes puis relâcha brutalement l'appareil allant définitivement se perdre dans les profondeurs abyssales. Alors, l'être émit un hurlement si strident que le tonnerre et les éclairs redoublèrent d'intensité.
